FIRE & RAIN
Here in California fire is on our minds. While in recent years we think about risk, devastation and smoke filled skies, fire has long been an integral part of our landscape. Part of the land’s natural cycles, fire can be life-giving and essential.
For this two-part shade installation along an art walk in Southern California, we tell the story of a rare native tree that depends on fire to survive.
The Tecate Cypress is a rare tree species found in Orange County. Like many of Southern California’s native plants, the Tecate Cypress tree requires a combination of fire and rain to unlock its seeds for germination.
