Painting nature is an unforgettable lesson
MuralKits
Painting murals about nature has transformed the way we understand the natural world around us.
MuralKits is our way of sharing this learning experience — inviting participants to become curious observers of nature and empowering them to make artwork for their own communities to enjoy.
MuralKits are ideal for all kinds of campuses, community spaces, non-profit HQs, retreat centers, parties, museums and more. All of us young and old love painting on a wall!
All around us, but just out of sight, are birds weaving intricate nests, spiders building delicate webs, and caterpillars undergoing one of the most miraculous transformations on the planet.
Learning about the native flora and fauna that is right under our noses is an important entry point into nature appreciation and conservation.
MuralKits teach participants about their local environment through a hands-on mural project.
For each MuralKit project we create a mural design that celebrates native plants and animals, a custom paint palette of beautiful, premixed, non-toxic paint colors, and educational materials to contextualize and enrich learning.
Mural Design
Customized to fit your wall and age group, we’ll create a design full of plants and critters that are part of your local ecosystem. This sample design is called The Host with the Most…Caterpillars! It features butterflies and moths with their host plants.
Educational Materials
Additional resources like key terms, fun facts and a species key, will help participants learn about the symbiotic relationships between coevolved species.
MuralKits in the Community
Want to bring MuralKits to your community?
Tell us about your site and the participants you have in mind. MuraKits can be designed to suit all ages, including adults!
As public artists, we celebrate local nature in our artwork to reflect a unique sense of place.
We research native species and look for stories of interconnection. Each time we learn about, sketch and paint a new plant or creature, we create a relationship with that species. And once you take the time to observe the number of petals on a poppy or paint the delicate pattern of a butterfly wing, it sticks with you. Then seeing these plants and critters out in the world feels like meeting an old friend.
Painting murals has been an interactive way for us to grow our passion and respect for the environment.
MuralKits is our way to share this applied art approach to learning that is active, interdisciplinary, and rewarding!
